June Birthstone: Pearl (Alternates: Moonstone, Alexandrite, Tourmaline)
Pearls, formed within mollusks, arise when a grain of sand irritates the oyster, causing it to cover the particle with nacre, creating a smooth and lustrous pearl. Known for their softness, pearls rate only 3.5 to 4 on the Mohs scale. Natural pearls are rare, with the majority being cultured in waters around Japan and Australia.
Historically, pearls symbolized purity and innocence, once worn exclusively by royalty. Legends suggest they were the tears of gods or treasures brought up by the moonlight. Pearls remain a classic choice, often gifted to signify wisdom and happiness.
Alternate Birthstones: Moonstone, Alexandrite, Tourmaline
Moonstone, known for its ethereal glow, is said to bring health and longevity. Alexandrite, a rare stone that changes color, represents grace and beauty. Tourmaline, prized for its wide range of colors, embodies balance.
